Our dad was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease in 2022. While he hated being on dialysis, he felt fortunate to have been able to do home dialysis while he waited for a kidney transplant. Our mom was the generous kidney donor who not only enabled him to have a live transplant, but to have one soon after his diagnosis.

Our family is beyond grateful for the vibrant life our dad got to live post-transplant. Unfortunately, transplants mean that patients have compromised immune systems, which is why he was unable to fight off a tough infection. If not for that infection, he'd still be here because of the successful kidney transplant.

It can be overwhelming to cope with a kidney disease diagnosis, the journey is often long and difficult. NKF is a source of hope and comfort for families like ours.
